Pre-Matrimonial Verification: What We Actually Check (And What We Find)

After more than 1,200 matrimonial verifications, I can tell you the statistic that surprises everyone: roughly one in six profiles we check contains a material misrepresentation — something serious enough that the family reconsiders the match. Not small vanities like a retouched photograph, but concealed marriages, fabricated jobs, hidden debts, and undisclosed medical or legal histories.

A professional pre-matrimonial verification covers six areas. First, employment and income: we confirm the employer, the role, the tenure and — where claims are specific — the salary bracket. 'Senior manager in an MNC' has turned out to be a showroom sales job more times than I can count. Second, education: degree mills sell convincing certificates, and we verify directly with institutions. Third, family background: the family's standing in their locality, their actual ownership of the property they showcase, and the reputation they hold among neighbours who have known them for decades.

Fourth — and most sensitive — relationship history. Previous engagements, live-in relationships, and in the worst cases, existing marriages. NRI matches deserve special care here: distance hides a great deal, and we routinely verify overseas employment, immigration status and marital records through partner agencies abroad. Fifth, lifestyle and habits: patterns of drinking, gambling or substance abuse that surface through discreet enquiries, not gossip. Sixth, litigation and police records: pending cases, past FIRs, loan defaults.

The red flags families most often miss are behavioural: pressure for a quick wedding, reluctance to share basic documents, relatives who deflect ordinary questions, a career story whose timeline does not quite add up. Any one of these alone can be innocent. Two together justify a closer look.

A verification typically takes seven to fourteen days and costs less than the wedding photographer. What it buys is not suspicion — it is certainty. And when the report comes back clean, as most do, the family proceeds with a confidence no horoscope can provide.
